Talking flash sound

hey

ii have finaly got flash and java to work with mozilla 1.7 i have been trying to do this for weeks.

fedora 2 with all updates

the problem i am having now is that if i shut the computer off and restart there is no sound with flash files. however, if i reinstall the flash the sound works again-until i shut down. i am sure it is a permission problem of some sort but have no idea where to look.

i can log on as root and it still will not work unless i install it.

this is what i type

[root@x1-6-00-07-e9-6d-24-c0 downloads]# rpm -ivh flash-plugin-7.0.25-1.i386.rpm
warning: flash-plugin-7.0.25-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 8df56d05
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package flash-plugin-7.0.25-1 is already installed
[root@x1-6-00-07-e9-6d-24-c0 downloads]#

after that it works but after restart the sound is gone.

help!!!!

erm.... does sound works otherwise?

Btw, highly consider ditching Fedora and going SuSe or if you know what 'ls' stands for, switch to some normal distro, such as Debian or Gentoo (Gentoo is recommended)

yeah sound works otherwise

i have tried so many distros in the last two weeks.
Why do you say fedora is not a normal distro? i have tried, mandrake, ark, and fedora and debian. ark was eye pleasing but no support. mandrake i had problems which i could not fix.
what makes debian or gentoo normal?
is there really a difference between the distros of linux?
remember, i am new so i need a simple install and the ability to listen to music and surf the net.

Fedora is insanely bloated, plus development people do some decisions for the user on install, that i would not recommend anyone. Debian and Gentoo you get exactly what you want or need, nothing extra, its pretty much always patched and, with rare exceptions, up-to-date. Consider Suse if you like prettiness.

Hmmm, I'm not sure.... Consider switching to Firefox or Konqueror for web browsing. I know its a workaround, but maybe those guys will be able to play the sound by defaul, cause its possible that Mozilla is just not loading the sound extentions when its seeing a flash file.

i could never get java to work with firefox. it did work with konq thou.

i can always make linux pretty. havent tried suse yet. maybe i will give that a shot.

what decisions do the developers of fedora make that are not good? I thought fedora was a spinoff of red hat and red hat is good distro.

Unless they fundamentally changed how the system is setup, then about half of the services that are started on boot are completely useless for your purposes. all those services are selected to start by default. it has pretty much everything linked into gzip and xfree (like hardware detection) and tends not to install half of needed things. Most of the development libraries are missing and if you 'play' the installer right you'll end up with no compiler. It does not play mp3s by default and have few things that are also disabled by default, which should not be. The default themes are atrocious (sp?) and there is quite a list of vulnerabilities if you go online and try updating using their default tool. And all that is BEFORE rpm hell.

should i really go on?
