Flash Beta not superseding previous install?
I keep trying to play these Yahoo News movies. I have MPlayer, Flash vers. 7, and the latest Flash Beta which is supposed to make anything and everything work, right? Sometimes, it gives me this long list of impossible dependency conflicts, such as missing compatible OS, missing compatible media player, missing current flash, etc. Sometimes, it just stops playing after the commercial introduction, no news. It just simply stops. I then go to Settings, and it says that Flash 7 is operating. Every once in a while, it will play the video, but most of the time, it acts out one of the two previous scenarios.
I downloaded the Flash Beta, installed it correctly as far as I can tell, but something tells me that something is still not right. In my about:plugins, this is what it says: Quote:
Is Futuresplash supposed to designate the Flash Beta? Is it possible that somehow the Flash Beta is not superseding the original player and it needs to be purged? I'm not sure why it is still listing Flash 7.0 as the applicable player and associating that file with Flash 7. In /usr/lib/browser-plugins, I have what looks like the libflashplayer.so listed above. It is the same size as the file with the same name under /home/justin/flashplayer9beta/flash-player-plugin-9.0.21.55/. I also have flashplayer.xpt, which I believe is the flashplayer 7 file. I copied over the .so file again from the Beta directory just to be sure, but with no effect. Under /usr/lib/, there are no directories listed for Mozilla or Firefox, just the browser-plugins directory, Here is the original readme for the Flash Beta. Quote:

I'm having the exact same problem, I searched for the flash player 7 plugin but cannot find it. The weird thing is, flash 9 worked flawlessly for about 3 months, and all of a sudden refuses to do anything now. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it.
The only other option I see is to uninstall and reinstall firefox and start off with a clean plugin folder and hope it works. which I really don't want to do |
ya...I installed the flash 9 plugin yesterday and it worked flawlessly.
Now I just see flash 7! Why? Because I'm on another distro! (installed it on SUSE, running Slackware now:P) |
Ok, I got mine working, I scanned my files for every occurrence of libflashplayer.so and deleted them.
then opened up firefox to see if I could watch a video (which I couldn't!!) then dled the plugin, and installed it in usr/lib/firefox/plugins works great now! Also agentchange, flash player will not make everything work, there will be instances where mplayer will have to open up a file. Flash player cannot play Windows media player files. My guess is your missing some codecs. |
Only thing is that on my system, there is no directory under /usr/lib/ for firefox nor mozilla, which I primarily use. There is only the browser plugins directory.

The flash 9 doesn't work for everything. When I try to watch yahoo news clips, I get the flash popup window with the add, then the add ends and I get nothing. If I right click during the add or the blank space after it, I see "about flash player 9".
Interestingly enough, I can watch all the videos on msn, which I never look at. Peace, JimBass |

that may be part of your problem though. Trust me you have a firefox/plugins directory somewhere you've just got to go find it. try opening up your package manager to see if you can locate the firefox directory from there. |
