Fixing Ubuntu operating system with the install disk

I'm currently running Ubuntu OS 10.4 32 bit. My problem is Firefox is unable to connect to the server, also when booting I get a message that says my OS has errors. Is there a way to fix my system using the installation disk?

Thank you, John

There is always away to fix the OS installed. Whether it be simple or complicated depends on what happend. If you have so many errors you might want to just install if you have corrupted files on your system. Boot your system with the live cd and run fsck and attempt to repair your file system. then boot back into your OS and see if these errors arise again. If you still have errors take note what they are and post them here. These errors is possible that they are not related to Ubuntu it self but may only be some apps corrupted on your ubuntu system. Which can be reinstalled if you have corrupt files. There is not real way to help you with out further info on what is really going on. Hope this gives you an ideal to fixing your issue. Remember reinstall is a last resort.

We really need to know exactly what error messages you're getting. Guessing from the fact that you can boot and launch Firefox, it might be a hardware/driver issue, so to help resolve your problem, please type:

Code:
lspci
in the terminal and post the output.

Also, what type of internet connection do you have? (wireless, cable, dialup)

I would guess that you're not getting online at all. Check networking first.
