First time using redhat 7.2


hello its my first time using redhat 7.2 after the instalation rpoces what can i do to acces my system beacuse its asking me fot a login and a password wich i don't have and don't what what it is for

First of all, RH 7.2 is about 4-5 years old! Why not find something a little newer to try?

When you install, it asks you to set a root passwd. You must have done this or you could not finish the install...

As for why, Linux is a multi-user system. All users have their own passwd so others can not view/remove their personal files.

the thing is a friend gave a old ibm think pad to install for me any linux sistem and the only one i got is redhat and i dont really know how to ge tmy hand in a newew version wich one would you recomend

Well, If you want to go with Redhat, then you should try Fedora Core. You can download for free at http://fedora.redhat.com/download/

Also good for beginners is SuSe, Mandriva, Ubuntu and many others...
