First Time Poster - Trying to run GUI in Ubuntu, says command not found :(
First time poster, first time linux installer :-)
Just installed the latest flavor of Ubuntu, and I am trying to load the GUI by running 'startx' Message I receive back is "-bash: xstart: command not found"
I am assuming I need to install this bad boy somehow, but my lack of linux prowess is getting the best of me.
I bet I will be posting quite a bit, as I attempt to get my first phpbb up and running on this old dell I have just sitting around the office.
Why don't you start by telling us what you did (didn't) install ...
Server/desktop/alternate CD downloaded and installed as documented - that sort of thing.

Then tell us what you changed.
I downloaded the server ISO, installed it. The only option I remember installing was samba.

I'm betting the server build didn't include X-server or a desktop environment. I don't have access to a Ubuntu system here but an apt-get of a meta package like ubuntu-desktop would probably add it all.
Better wait for a response from someone who can provide a definitive answer.
