Unhappy first run with linux slackware 9.0


Hello,

I have installed linux slackware 9.0 on my machine, I installed everything properly and installed also the standard kernel. But when I reboot after de configuration, he doesn't load the gui (graphic user interface) and stays in a dos liking window, I can insert my username (one user=root) and my pass, then I receive the message, that I have mail, and then a kind of profethic text, It are very nice texts, really , but how do I get into my graphic environnement.

Can anyone help me

type in this command: startx

If that fails then type:
#xf86config

I start KDE with
# kdm
Also works
You must have properly configured X server, though..

if you wish to boot to the gui automatically, then open your

/etc/inittab as root

and change this line

# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:3:initdefault:

to

# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:4:initdefault:

save and exit. be sure to have x configured properly first.

Read PeaceDog's comments. Make sure that KDE is the desktop that opens when you type "startx" first.
