First install - SQUASHFS
Ubuntu 12.10. I created a bootable USB stick, and that boots me to a choice between "Try it" and "Install it" I selected "Try It", and was presented with a blank screen, flashing cursor at top right. Nothing happened for a very long time - a few hours. Eventually I thought "Something must have gone wrong", and went to extract the memory stick to restart the computer. Immediately I had a slew of squashfs errors on the screen, so I pushed it back in, and nothing continued to happen. "Ok", I think, "something IS happening, but with no progress report". I can get it to produce errors if I use the keyboard to toggle the wireless, so it's still going, another few hours later. I just wonder if what it's doing is making progress, or stuck in a loop. The squashfs errors are preceded by a pair of numbers in brackets, and those numbers are increasing, now up to 27221.499238. Am I wasting my time, or should I hang on for completion? And how long might that be? The machine has a 320Gb HDD, and 1GB of RAM.
