firewall?
I just installed Mandrake 9.1 with all the bells and whistles. After finally getting online, I have to wonder if all of my servers are running, and if so, is the firewall protecting them?
I can't seem to find anything in the GUI to allow me to check this. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
Well, I don't think Mandrake has a firewall run by default, but check out IPTABLES - the unix firewall that comes installed.
Are all your servers running? Probobly, Mandrake loves to start services. In the Mandrake Control Center, look for "Services" and disable all servers, Apache, Sendmail, SSH, BIND, portmap, etc. If you want to check how secure you are, try using NMAP. As root, type: nmapfe in a terminal. You may have to install nmap, it should be on your installation disk. |
you can also goto www.grc.com, look for a service called "SHIELDS UP!" it scans all your ports for possible open ones!

Another place to scan your computer is the Sygate Online Services. Don't take GRC too seriously. :)
