Juuuuuust for the record my main distro at the moment (I like to get around!
) is Debian. Also on the same HD is Mandrake 8.0, which in my view is a godsend to newbies, basially because everything is done from the MCC (Mandrake Control Centre). I was really impressed with it, until I wanted to do something which was not in there, and then I stopped using Mandrake. Besides, one of the reasons why I started to use Linux was the fact of being able to configure any part of the OS I wanted. I can see why Mandrake is so popular with linux lay men. It was my first distro (7.2), and I think one of the best.
I dont know if you would really enjoy the Mandrake experience now though Trickykid, especially if you have quite a bit of experience of Linux.
MCC does make the answers nice and short though
