Firefox troubles (?)

I am pretty new to linux. So far I have found answers to most of the things I want to do, but, I need help with this one.

I read somewhere in the firefox help that the browser should act like internet explorer. More specifically, when you click in the address bar to change website addresses, IE comes up with a blue box around what's there and the box clears when you start typing the new address.

I read firefox is supposed to do the same thing, but, mine doesn't. I have to backspace to remove everything and re-type what I want.

Is there a fix for this or is it normal?
Here is all the info I could find that might help-
Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop with a pentium 4 processor
PClinuxOS2007 operating system
KDE version - 3.5.6
Release - 2.6.18.8.Tex5
Machine - i686
Firefox 2.0.0.3-3pclos20

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

1) You can double click on the address which should produce the blue box; or
2) You can right click on the address and choose select all;or
3) You can press Ctrl-L
