Firefox/Iceweasel Seamonkey/Iceape ..faster startup times??
 

Is there a way to stop these browsers from looking up plugins on startup??Iceweasle/Firefox on new install took about 3-4 seconds to start.But after installing java,flash,mplayer-mozilla-plugin,xine-plugin.It takes almost 9-10 seconds to start.And Iceape/Seamonkey at first started in a blink of a eye.Now with plugins it takes 4-5 seconds.which tells me it scans plugins on start each time.Ive looked in setting in about:config but didnt see anything there.Anyone know if theres any config to edit that will bypass scan at startup??

What is Iceweasle, a Firefox Beta? You could probably disable java and the other plugins until you want to use them. Go to 'tools: add-ons' (or the add-ons bar, or whatever) and do it. Otherwise install all the configuration plugins and see if you can stop the scanning.

The rest of this I wrote previously mainly because I thought you asked 'why is it so slow,' but I leave it because I explained package dependencies: your plugins probably have some (check your GNU/Linux distro's package system.)

If you have any computer that has been sold since they mostly stopped selling 32-bit ones new, there might be a problem beyond java, which might still include running java, which contains a lot of code, and running all that stuff in addition that probably uses java and contains a very large amount of code on its own. Last time I read (a year or 2 ago) firefox itself took 1Gb of memory to even run. That is just excessive, and is likely the problem. Eventually all that tens of millions of bytes of code starts to have problems. I think another problem is default on-disc cache sizes of what you have visited are getting huge, and there are probably several caches. If you updated flash, mplayer, xine, anything they depend on, or anything their dependencies depend on (and so on, to the end,) that could be a problem.

Few GNU/Linuxes let you get to the place to see dependencies easily (except when you install stuff,) but if you start your distros package manager and it asks you what to do (or maybe even runs in X: KDE, Gnome, etc.,) then you could see if something has been updated. Sometimes distros or software, even firefox itself, do automatic updates. At least in firefox you should probably know if this is the case, though other plugins could be the problem (I have almost 100 installed and some have had errors) the plugins you mentioned depend on things your distro's package manager may have updated if you have let them at the first install or maybe even if you used it later and they asked.

Ice Weasle IS Firefox, It's Debian and Debian don't release packages as standard from for profit companies like the mozilla organistation which has profits noticibly in the millions area... At least this is something like what my Debian using co-workers told me.

I dunno enough about Firefox, I use Opera on all OSs so I can't really help but I believe you are able to disable plug-ins in one way or another... it's not a bad idea to disable plug-in's anyways given that firefox plug-ins are about the most vunable and least secure part of any modern graphical internet browser... We use VNC over SSH tunnels at work for various reasons, so I got curious when I saw "Ice Weasle"...

I know how to get it to stop scanning..by adding a new entry to about:config..Ive seen examples for it..

But that is for windows..Ive added the netscape navigator entry but that doesnt seem to help.Im pretty sure theres probably a entry for this for linux..Ive tried creating a entry named "scan.plugins" and set it to false..but didnt work.tried "scan.plugins.all" allong with a couple otheres..Just taking a stab in there dark.
Only thing Seamonkey/Iceape has is to disable is java script.Gogling didnt come up with much ..And I mainly use Opera these days..Its faster and not as slugish as Iceweael/firefox ..i dont even use Iceweasel/firefox any more..Its just installed because it was a dependency of adblock plus in repo's.Its mainly 80% Opera and 20% Seamonkey/Iceape..

You should be able to monitor and change the update behavior for that Firefox Profile, I think it should work in the IceWeasel set too. I would recommend that you set it to not automatically check for the plugin updates, and maybe have it ask you what to do instead of automatically downloading, in order to fix the performance problem you were talking about.

Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Update and uncheck the items.

Also you might try using prelink and preload. My system is crap and iceweasel starts pretty much instantly. Never have liked the way opera looks or acts although I do have the latest opera installed. And no opera is not faster than iw I have ran both for years, nor is the Mozilla Firefox faster than iceweasel.

That memory usage is with mplayer streaming, iceweasel open with chatzilla and 6 other tabs open, and evince with a 6mb ebook open, running with LXDE.
