firefox doesnt work in backtrack3.

I got virutualbox.org's virtual machine running backtrack3 on windows xp. I think the internet is working fine because i can ping websites. But if i open firefox and try to goto a URL it says "connecting > waiting for whatever" in status bar. But then page just goes whie blank. Tried restarting couple of times. But wudnt work.

Thanks,
Nickson.

Hmm,

Sounds like that there's possibly an issue with your Proxy.
So, you're able to ping the addresses, but nothing comes up. Have you tried going to them via IP instead of FQDN (or www) and also, check your host file on the CD to see if possibly thats been modified.

Normally its located at /etc/hosts

I do not know backtrack, but it is clear that your problem is name resolution, that is converting a hostname to its IP address. Start by checking the hosts line in the /etc/nswitch.conf file. It should have as one of the entries "dns". Then look at /etc/resolv.conf to make sure that your system is using good name server(s). This file should contain at least one but 2 or three IP addresases of reliable name servers. Your DSL or dialup provider should have given you at least two IP addresses to put in this file. The /etc.hosts filew will only give you static name resolution and you need dynamic name resolution.

good luck.
