Firefox application is not working, can ping a website through Terminal

RHEL 6.0 installed. On panel is an Application launcher that displayed with the name Preferred web browser. The command is firefox %u. When I try to launch it nothing happens. I'm able to ping yahoo.com successfully so I know I can get out to the internet. How can I make sure Firefox installed correctly. I tried as a regular user and super user and same results.

Ghockenbury,

Assuming that firefox is well installed:

Check your DNS entry. It is obvious your box can communicate the internet through udp packets but the connection cannot resolve names, upon which the browser is dependent. Probably your Domain Name Server (DNS) is mis-entered. If the current IP for DNS doesn't work call your service provider and talk to them.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

If nothing happens, it would appear that Firefox is not installed correctly. Open a terminal, type
firefox
and look for error messages.

Ghockenbury,

By the way, check your firewall if it has closed port 80 or the http port. You can test run firefox switching Off the firewall for a moment and see if it opens internet site.

Good luck.
