finding wireless networks in linuxmint!!

ive been runing around from one distro to another
ive last instaled linux mint
unlike mandriva or i forgot whats the name of that distro!!
anyway ...
in linux mint it says it find the wireless card !!
i even used the windows wireless driver thing and it did identify and it says hardware present :yes !!
still it doesnt scan and show me availble wireless networks!!
must i configure it manuely ??
mandriva one identified it automaticly and scaned networks automaticly !!
in mint it seems like it finds the hardware automaticly even without the windows wireless driver ..... but still it doesnt scan ..
must i download a specific aplication that shows networks in range ...
or is it simply not working properly ????
thnx :)

im still at work will check when i go home but a small question ..
i remember in network tools in ethernet i find ethe1 or ethe0
but in wireless nothing ??
does that mean that its not identfied properly
or simply not connected at the moment to any network ??
thnx again :)

no, it does mean that your nic is not identified properly. You should have something when you type 'iwconfig', even when you are not connected to any network.
