Finding hard drive type?

What command can I run to find the type/brand/size, basically all hardware details for existing hard drives in the system.

Thanks,

dmesg will give you the model numbers and size of disks on IDE controllers, the output is not pretty but scrolling through gives a host of information

hdparm needs to be used by root dmesg doesn't

Thanks this works fine on a /dev/hda which is an IDE drive in one machine. On the target machine where it's a sata drive and /dev/sda I get:

HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
