Finding connection speed when using wvdial

When connecting to the internet in Ubuntu 10.04 with an external USB dialup modem, using a terminal and sudo wvdial command, is there a command or some way that will show the modem connection speed?

I checked similar threads, but they don't appear to involve finding dialup modem speeds.

Thanks for help--noob to Linux/Ubuntu, much to learn!

If you add yourself to the dialup group you don't even need to use sudo typically... that aside, when it attempts to connect you should see a line like-- "CONNECT xxxxx/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS" where xxxxx tells you your connection speed.

---so correct--amid all the text in the terminal window, I hadn't even noticed! [Slaps self upside head.]

Thanks again!
