Finally got suse 9.1 installed now modem problems

finally got Suse 9.1 to dual boot with Windows xp. But when it tried to go on the internet the following error came up.

ethO device: Realtek Semiconductor Co. LTD.
ethO configuration:
eth-id-00:40:2b:3d:33:04
DHCP client is already running on etho

I opened windows and got on the internet then I saw the Suse lizard's head on the Firefox tabs like Windows and Suse were both trying to run at the same time and I lost internet connectionon and couldn't get back on. I called my ISP they worked with me for a while and then they called my connection number and got on with no problem. So it had to be my computer I switched modems and still nothing. I used system recovery again to reinstall Windows XP and now my modem works fine again. Any ideas as to what my problem is?

Thanks maparus

Dial up

vmlinuz101 11-17-2005 02:46 PM

you should be using ppp then. eth0 is the first ethernet card onyour machine. This is usually the network interface, as opposed to what you might have thought it to be. Run Yast2 to set up your modem which will be at serial port ttyS0 (example). Yast2 will let you configure all your dialup information. It uses ppp (Point-to-Point) protocol. pppd id the daemon that starts this. wvdial is also a script you can edit with your ISP's information, but its handier to do it in Yast2. Finally use KInternet (KDE) or QInternet (Gnome) to actually dial in
