i had a lucent adsl n someone tol me that its not compatible to linux. i got a new adsl which is LINKSYS WAG54G. i am sure that it works in linux.

now i hv to connect to the net. thats where im trapped.

im a real n00b at linux stuff so i need step by step instructions

have you tried connecting already? did your NIC get auto-detected? no? did you download the driver from a different computer with network access and install that (using 3 1/2 floppy or cdrw, etc)? how did that work out? errors? need more detail.

edit: also, have is 'have', not 'hv', etc etc

i hv connecte on my solo pc meanwhile wich has dual boor, winxp n fc3. i connected it thru a NIC. i hv not got anything from the net nor another pc. i think the NIC is auto-detected

i have connecteg on a pc with winxp dual booting with fc3. i got a "linksys WAG54G" which is connected through my NIC (D-LINK DFE-530 TX). i have not got anything from the net nor another pc. i think the NIC is auto-detected

so the problem is that you want to get online in FC3? ie, search the web, etc.. correct? have you tried opening firefox or whatever browser and surfing the net? does it just not connect? or does it give error about your NIC at all?
in your XP partition, download the linux driver for your NIC and put it on a floppy or your NTFS partition. boot into fc3 and access that mounted partition and copy the file to your linux partition, and try to install the driver that way.
does 'ifconfig' work? or type 'man ifconfig' to read about how to configure your network interface card.
have you tried browsing through your system menus with the GUI to search for info/configuration tools of your NIC? or is there some option to setup a network? etc

it detects my network card. when i type yahoo.com and press enter, i get an error saying check your proxy settings, but all my settings are right (as far as i think)

do you use dhcp? is there a box to 'automatically detect settings' or something? did you look up info about ifconfig? type 'man ifconfig' at a console window to get info about it.. does it list your routers ip? try other tools to see that your NIC is detected and working? did you try installing the specific linux driver from the manufacturer? try posting this in the hardware forum

im quite new to linux and probably cant help any further with exact details for this problem. i was just giving you guidelines or things to check out yourself to see if you can supply more details for others who will read this thread and maybe be able to respond. i can only say to try the things i suggested, all of them, and after that is the end of my help probably. maybe someone else can offer their help.. if not, try posting a more specific thread in the hardware forum with a GOOD thread name. not 'finally'. name it something with FC3 and the name of your NIC in it.
