files get corrupted every time there is a power interruption

hi guys!
wondering if you can give me a piece of your mind regarding my problem.
we have a small network with one file server all the computers are connected to this server (which uses slackware). everytime there is a power interruption files that are currently open to other terminals are corrupted. all the other terminals does not have any ups. after the file is corrupted i have to restore the backup from the previous day instead of what was the last saved item of the file.
hope you can help. thanks!

You need to post more information, we can't read mind nor see your machine from here. Think before you post!

I'm going to assume you're using ext2 as your filesystem, boot into single user mode or use a live CD or something and use mke2fs -j on the partition. That will convert it to ext3 without losing any data and ext3 will survive a hard shutdown considerably better than ext2 due to it's journalling capabilities.

If the files are important then investing in a UPS is important too (along with cs-cam's post about using a journalling file system if you're not already). You can get a cheap desktop UPS for $40-$80. Ones from APC have good Linux support (via apcupsd) and the machine can even be configured to shutdown when battery power is low.
