File Permissions
 

I know how file permissions work, but the OS is giving me a bit of a problem. There is one directory, amongst a bunch of public ones, that I want to keep private. I have tried with the GUI to set the permissions (through checking the appropriate boxes in the 3x3 grid) and have also done it through the command line (chmod 700 filename). Both solutions work temporarily. But as soon as I log off and log back on, the file perimssions are reset! and everyone can see the file again. Has this happened to anyone??? And how did you go about fixing it?

Nevermind I found the answer in another post; the partition is formatted as a VFAT and doesn't understand file permissions.
