File is not owned by current user

I want to run a grid-proxy-init command, but I'm getting the error
"/home/jane/.globus/usercert.pem is not owned by current user"

What is the difference between having read/write permissions, and owning a file? How do I change the ownership of the file?

Code:
[root@GRID9 globus]# /usr/local/globus-4.0.1/bin/grid-proxy-init -verify -debug

ERROR: Couldn't find valid credentials to generate a proxy.

grid_proxy_init.c:605:globus_sysconfig: Error with certificate filename: The user cert could not be found in:
1) env. var. X509_USER_CERT
2) $HOME/.globus/usercert.pem
3) $HOME/.globus/usercred.p12

[root@GRID9 globus]# su jane
[jane@GRID9 globus]$ /usr/local/globus-4.0.1/bin/grid-proxy-init -verify -debug

ERROR: Couldn't find valid credentials to generate a proxy.

usercert.pem is owned by "globus" not "jane". I'm not familiar with globus, but it appears it requires the certificate to be owned by the user.

Code:
chown jane:users usercert.pem
should fix it. I have no idea what it will do to your security, though, or whether it will break anything else.
