File integrity problems with IE

Hi everyone...

I have question. I saw an article sometime ago stating that there were problems when you DL Linux files from a WinXP machine using IE and then put them on a USB Key or CD and take them to a Linux. It seems to me there is a workaround for that.. Can anyone tell me?

I have a installed Feather Linux machine on my laptop. Part of what makes it "Feather" is the fact that I have to install dpkg on my own. I DL them using IE. Put them on my USBKey. They show up at dpkg.tar.bz2.

I hit tar -jxvf dpkg.tar.bz2 and it comes up as corrupted stating to bziperecover them.

I do the bziprecover and get 20 some files rec001blahblah.tar.bz2 but then I dont know what to do with them from there...

I bow at the alter of Linux greatness and humbly ask for HELPPP!!!

pulling out whats left of my hair...

I can't help you except to maybe run scandisk on your USB key from Windows and try downloading/copying the files again however that article was talking crap. Having done it myself before I installed Gentoo I downloaded a ton of what I'd need in-case I couldn't get my net working straight away and copied it over once installed and it all worked fine.

Or do what every window$ user should do, NEVER use IE. Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, and Opera all have free window$ browsers that are more secure, won't corrupt your downloads for linux, and don't have an incestuous relationship with your OS.

Peace,

i agree firefox is far superior to IE, infact putting firefox on a win XP machine is what got me interested in linux...i have now changed operating systems from XP to fedore core 3. right now learning all the code on how to do things is very frustrating, but i am glad to be rid ow M$

I agree however my IT guy at work would have a kiniption to say the least if I switched his computer to Firefox...

So I'm back where I was.. there's got to be a workaround for this... Its worked for me with previous installations but all the sudden its not working anymore...
