File extension...??


What does the extension filename ......tar.gz means?
Is it a zip file?

Do a little googling and you'll sure to find all the answers you need.

.tar.gz is a Zipped Tarball -- basically a zip file for linux. A Tarball is a package of files, and the .gz descriptor shows that it's been "gzipped" to reduce file size.

$ man tar
