You don't tell us what version/distro of Linux you're using now, so it's hard to tell you anything more than the link to the source code, which is the
very first hit in Google for "ffmpeg"...did you look?

It is much better to install from your package manager, but since you're not providing details about what you're using, it's hard to say more.
