Open up a terminal, I think KDE's is called Konsole or something like that. And unfortunately, as far as Desktop Managers go, I've only used Gnome (IceWM pwns all btw) so I can't help you with adding a menu :\

The question marks on your files is Supermount playing up.
You have two options:
1) Logout - Login.
2) Reboot if logout/in didn't sort it out.
Supermount is the only bugbear I have with Mandy. Konsole doesn't seem to be able to sort it either - get the 'device busy' blah blah.
You can sort it out by perma unmounting your CD-Rom. You can do this from the MCC under Mount Points. It just means you have to Konsole/mount every time you put in a cd and konsole unmount when you're done.

EDIT OK, you sorted it whilst I was typing
I think I'm going to write a tutorial so I don't have to keep typing all this out. heh.

I didn't notice if any one had posted about accessing Gmail. I use firefox to access it. You can add an extension to is which puts a small icon in the bottom right of your browser that lets you know when you have mail.

Right click on empty part of desktop. From the menu choose:
Create new -> File -> Link to Application.
It'll open a window with 3 tabs - General - Permissions - Application
On the general tab fill in the box where "link to application" is filled in with grey - delete that and add 'gaim' without quotes.
On the Application tab:
Description - gaim
Comment - leave blank
Command - /usr/bin/gaim
You shouldn't need to change anything on the permissions tab.
Click OK.
Done.
