Few questions
 

Greetings to all,

My name is saurabh and i m from India (Mumbai). I have a very firm grip on MS Windows server. But tired of getting crash now and then. So, I am planning to shift my clients to Linux based server and let the nodes will be MS Windows XP. But, I dont know anything about Linux aceept read lots of articles about it.

Can anyone please help me how to setup a Linux server. Which Linux server will be best among RedHat, SuSe, etc..the network of machines will be around 80 to 120 PC's.

Is Linux the safest server among all the servers even from Microsoft Server. Problems like Virus attack, Spammers, Hanging problems, network connectivity slowdown, etc...i m facing such problems.

Which distribution is the best? That's always the question of the day. There really is no best distribution, but some will be better suited to server settings. Major distributions like Red Hat and Debian will have better tutorials and documentation. Ubuntu would not likely be a good choice since it doesn't use a root account. Try out a few and see which ones you like.

Improvements over Windows: Server stability is excellent, especially if you don't run the graphical environment on the server. Viruses written for Windows will not run on linux. Your workstations may still be hit, but your server will not. There may be viruses written for Linux by now, but I don't know of any. Spammers you will still have to worry about.

Hey, when you figure out how to set up your network, can you tell me. I am having nothing but problems setting up two systems talking to the internet. I don't know very much about networking.

Hello, and welcome to LinuxQuestions! Yes, linux and freebsd are the ultimate in safe and fast webserving. A single Linux system can handle a RAID matrix of well over a tearbyte in size. The amount of hooked up machines is not a problem either. The best distro for a server? Well, definetly not Fedora Core. It's the most buggy of all Linux distros around. If you want stability, try Debian Sarge. If you want speed and safety, try OpenBSD (Yeah, not a Linux, but a UNIX nonetheless...). If you want a server which will always work, no matter the circumstances, go for Slackware (Which is my recommendation... ;). I've never used RedHat enterprise linux, but is seems stable enugh.
