Hmm.. this is my first post in this forum so.... Hi to Everyone first ^^
ANyhow... let's go straight to the point:
I'm using Ubuntu v5.4 with kernel: 2.6.10-5-386 , gcc version 3.3.5 (Ubuntu run on Debian base by the way)
Anyhow, here is my problemS ^^ :
- My laptop is running pretty slow so i checked the cpuinfo in /proc/ and dmesg and found out that it's running at 310 Hz (the CPU) while my CPU's actual speed is P3 700MHz. Can i change this configuration to match with my CPU speed?
-If i'm going to upgrade my memory from 64 to... say , 256, would it automatically change the setting or i have to do it manually?
-when i set up Ubuntu, I accidently let it created 2 partition by it's own (didn't have much time yanno? T_T) and now i'm running with 180 MB SWAP, and the rest is Primary partition using... ext3. Can someone tell me how to creat a... SWAP file (i remember i read some article about this but... couldnt remember...>.<) ???
-I'm planning to Install Linux from Scratch (LFS) on my laptop but i ran out of free space(well actually i didn't have any T_T) I tried to see if cfdisk have option to defrag "/" and then take out some free space but i couldn't find any option like that... can someone tell me how to take out about 2G from my previous partition without damage my data or my old system?
-I suck at complile files as well cause i dunno anything... so.. hmm.. i got this program and tried to ./configure it but it came out with this error:
loading cache ./config.cache
dialog not found!
Please read the documentation!!!
-I installed Xircom network card (pcmcia card) into my laptop and it worked damn fine!!! However... i installed Netgear WG511v2 wireless card into it and nothing happened, even the log in /var/message didn't say anything about new device that is installed... or error message... The card didn't light up or anything. I thought it's hard ware faulty so i went to the shop and got the new card but same thing happened T_T what should i DOOOO???
ANyway,... that's hell lots of questions... if you guys could help any of them, i would be very appriciate
thank you for your time and consideration
PS: oh ya, 1 more thing : I used cfdisk to delete and create partition on my thumbdrive (i planned to install Linux from scratch on it since i couldn't do anything to the harddrive)
then i got this partition table:
name Flags Part Type FS type Label Size(MB)
sda1 Boot Primary Linux 99.8
sda5 Logical Linux 31.20
I planned to use sda5 as swap and sda1 as primary. Will 31.2 is enough to run an operating system and does it need to be bigger than memory itself?? ^^
