Exclamation Fedora won't install on my laptop

Hello All,

I was trying to install Fedora Core 4 and after all the work of burning the fedora iso and the burning it again and all those other fun things and i get a message from fedora that i'm trying to install on a machine that Fedore 4 does not support. What a heartbreaker....I wonder what made me pick fedora in the first place. Now I have a good old Dell Inspiron 5150 does anyone know of a good version of linux for me to install on this machine Any info is appreciated.

Where exactly does Fedora tell you that it will not work on that hardware? Performing a Google search for "dell inspiron 5150 fedora", the very first hit points here:

http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/jabra/pr.../dell5150.html

which is a set of notes on how to get Fedora Core 3 running on that exact machine. If Fedora Core 3 supports it, Fedora Core 4 will.

your right Mad Scientist. It can and should be able to install my laptop. I went out today and invested in a better quality dvd (philips) and it's finally installing, at this very moment, yay! i have a feeling it wont be smooth sailing all the way tho, but so far so good.

That's a good idea. At least perform a media check when you try to install for the first time from a given disc. It will save a lot of headaches, trust me.
