Doing the install is unlikely to have any adverse effect - did you also run the fedora-upgrade command ?.

Why ? how did you find out about the command?.
Did you read the warnings ?.
Do you have a backup prior to executing it ?.
Do you have a liveCD/USB you can use for recovery ?.

upgrade from what to what
20 to 21 ?

Quote:
then got Repository errors
what errors ?
without them ...............

boot into single user mode and read the log in /var/log
or in rescue mode using the install dvd
and after you run
Code:
mount /dev/sysimage
and use nano to read the error log
Code:
cd /var/log
ls -la
---- then from the long list ----
nano boot.log

normally i would say
reformat
do a new install ( i have never had a upgrade work well )
then reinstall data from the back up you ALWAYS!!!!!! MAKE !!!!!!

was fedora 20 a LVM or did you manually partition
/boot
/
/home
swap

EVERY!!!! and i do mean EVERY guide on upgrading a OS has as the VERY FIRST thing to do is

#1 ) BACKUP
then #2 is see #1
and number 3 is BACKUP

you can try this i give it a 50- 50 chance

on a different computer
download the fedora 21 install dvd
and burn it to dvd

then pop that dvd into the busted box and reboot

do a CUSTOM!!!! install
one of the options is
" upgrade an existing install"
use that

it might or might NOT work

and hopefully it will not overwrite your files that you did NOT back up

When system is loading fedora logo, you can press "up" or "down" arrow to see the log and find which services or processes are failed.

Is it able to switch to another virtual console by Ctrl+Alt+F2, Ctrl+Alt+F3 ... after fedora logo has been loaded?
If yes, you can login and try to re-upgrade system.
If no, you may reboot on runlevel 3 and try to re-upgrade system.
