Angry fedora plays some sounds... but no music...

Hi,

I've searched forums all over the place and people have had similar problems to mine, but mine is a little different.

I'm running FC2, and it detects my sound card. I hear the test sound. I run GAIM and i have sound with that. But when i try playing a CD i get no sound. I even tried ripping them into .ogg files and the same thing happens.

Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

Thanks
Grant

hi canuck316, welcome to lq. do you have a sound cable attached from the drive in ? to the motherboard? are the files, music or data, are they mp3's?

Also: Are u using xmms to play them? If not, you need an analog cable going from CDROM to sound card.

Okay...

I decided to reinstall Fedora 2 because i forgot to install a whole bunch of apps last time and i didnt feel like downloading them all.

So, i tried ripping to .ogg again, and played it in xmms and it works.

But I go to Sound and video --> CD Player and try playing music straight from the cd, but it doesnt work. I know that all of the connection inside my computer are right, because i also run WinXP and it works there.

Being able to play the cd in CD Player would be great, I tried to figure out how to run it in XMMS but i couldnt find where i should select the cd to play.

Im not picky, being able to play cd's in either xmms or CD Player would be great.

Thanks for the help so far!

The reason XP can play then is because the sound is digital. In KsCD or any other program I know of besides xmms, the sound is analog and thus needs an analog cable going from CDROM to sound card, which is not there by default when u buy a computer.
