Well I figured out how to use md5sum, it actually wasn't hard I am just retarded. I was just wondering though, what do I compare the value that md5sum gave me with? Is there a value that fedora core 4 has somewhere?

You can also use the gui "winMd5sum" if you don't like the cli...

In the background of your screenshot, I see at the bottom a "sha1sum" listed. You want to find a similar value for Md5sum. if you downloaded from ftp://whateversite.com/fedora-iso1.iso or something like that, try leaving off the iso filename and see if you can look in the directory. There's usually a bunch of md5sum's listed in the download directories.

Sweet thanks man. I actually managed to get mine to work. I was typing in the "linux ide=nodma" command incorrectly. I was putting a space after the = sign, I typed it correctly and the cd's all passed. I have now run into a problem with assigning fedora core 4 a space to live. I have a 120 gig HDD split bascially in half, C: drive having my windowns install on it, and now my D: drive is left open and clean ready to accept fedora core 4. I am assuming that from the options menu in the installation I want to select "manual setup" for the partition. I am just unclear how exactly to set it up. I need to do some digging on the fedora core 4 site

Hey I just wanted to let you guys know that due to all your help I finally managed to get fedora core 4 to install!! Running a dual boot with windows XP and fedora core 4 now and everything appears to be working awesome. Now the learning really begins lol. A friend of mine gave me a quick crash course and oh man...there is a lot to know!

Just remember: everyone has questions, feel free to ask.
In general, the installation process is really simple (just like windows). Depending on your purpouse choose "Workstation/Server" when needed (I guess you'll be fine with workstation)
It would be nice if you make another one for data (just a recommendation having or not linux).
In the installation process you have the option of using Grub or Lilo. Use Grub. Yes, it is essential because Grub starts the kernel.
It is installed in the MBR of the HD.

Great, Congrats, now make yourself useful -- get busy figuring out how I install Mythtv w/ pcHDTV HD3000 my machine!

I'm kidding of course, Linux provides a whole bunch of freedom, choices, possibilities and aggravation. I suggest setting fairly modest objective at the start -- because this stuff can get complicated. Unless of course, you are already a full blown computer geek; in which case all I can say is "have fun!"

Well I actually didn't chose workstation...I chose personal computer I think it was. The first option? I hope thats not a bad thing!!

And I would get another HDD but I just don't have the money at the moment...have a bunch of other stuff I need to buy and pay off lol

Haha, man I really wish that I could help you man, that is waaaay above me at the moment though. I can barely use the terminal lol. Still trying to figure out all the commands!! And as for being a full blown computer geek...not yet I don't think, probably by the time I start school in september I will be though lol!!
