Fedora Core 2 SMP???

i've given up trying to dual boot windows xp pro and fedora core 2 on separate hard drives, so i've decided to build, from scratch, a complete linux system. i'm going to be running fedora core 2 and i've pretty much given myself a rough $300-$350 budget for the system. My original setup was going to be as follows:

ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ "Thoroughbred"
512MB DDR PC2700 memory
Geforce MX4400
Seagate Barracuda 80GB hard drive
Netgear 54Mbps wireless PCI adapter WG311

it should have no compatibility problems on Fedora Core 2...i think...
But then it occurred to me: linux supports SMP, and since i'm going to be using the computer system as a workstation anyways, i might as well take advantage of that. However, I've never run SMP on linux before and I haven't seen any support floating around on setting up fedora core 2 with SMP. Any suggestions?

LOL. nevermind that post. i just found docs on recompiling the kernel for smp.
Any suggestions on a $350 dual proc. sys?
