Unhappy Fedora core 2 keeps logging me off. How can I stop this?

I'm not totally sure whats going on, but my computer keeps logging me out when I am not physically using it. If I walk away to go get a cup of juice and I am in the terminal it logs me off before I return. I have important work that I am doing and am sick of starting it over. PLEASE HELP ME!!

Screen Saver/Login Manaager

I have Fedora 6 and have not seen the Fedora 2 interface, and do not know exactly how the main system menu appears. On Fedora 6, it's an icon with a stylized "f". Off of that menu, there should be a system menu, with a subdivision after that for Preferences and Administration.

Start with preferences and screen saver, or if there is a pick for login management, try that. It sounds like your screen saver is logging you out after a time.

If not, think about upgrading -- new install -- to whatever the latest Fedora is, unless your hardware requires an older version of the OS. I'm moving my last test machine (Fedora 6) to CentOS, because that will map to our RHEL systems, and it requires no "entitlements". Fedora's updates stopped too quickly for me.

If this is older hardware and you are not tied to development or applications that depend on Fedora, think about Xubuntu or Zenwalk.

you do know that fedora 2 is no longer supported
and hit it's END OF LIFE "Fedora Core 2: : Active until 2005-04-11"
as to the "logging you out that is the power manager.
install fedora 8 or 9
Fedora 2 is full of unpatched security holes seeing there have been NO UPDATES since '05

The caps and bold statements were not entirely necesarry, however, John is right: you should update your OS. You will find little support for such an obsolete system.

Yes you should update your OS .
In fact Fedora 9 has very good GUI and 3D desktop.

If you have to use Fedora2 for whatever reason and are not able to upgrade, then you should check what causes the problem. I have run all the Fedora versions from version 1 to version 8, and the problem is certainly not typical for any Fedora installation and not something caused by a preference setting.

Are you running in a terminal or using X windows? Is any of your scripts executing an 'exit' command that throws you out of your terminal login? Is it X windows that crashes? Has it to do with a screensaver that launches after some time and crashes?

Without any other information the only possible advice is to save all your work before you go for lunch.

if you are just being logged out and not crashing check the power manager and screensaver
and upgrade to fedora 8 or 9
