fedora core 10 reinstall can I avoid reformating sda6
 

I have just installed fedora core 10, and it looks good. However, if I need to reinstall it, can I avoid reformatting /home?

I can't see any way of doing this when installing from disc. Am I missing something completely obvious to everyone else but me?

The installer doesn't force you to format any partition you don't want to. You can just pick it straight up as a mountpoint if you want to.

Is that the option to use existing partitions?

If I try that I get an error message saying there isn't enough memory to write /boot.

If you just installed FC10, then you can not have that many items in your home directory. Maybe simply backup /home to a CD or USB stick, and copy it back afterwards.

if it's trying to make a /boot then naturally there needs to be space for a new partition, so in that instance you need to delete a *different* partition or reuse an old boot partition. if you want sda6 left untouched then what are sda1-5 doing??

I think its a boot options problem.

If I go to the selected linux partitions option, I get a table with "format" as one column. So /sda and /sda6
(/home) are both ticked. I can't seem find a way to "un-tick".

Now to get the install from disk to install at all, I had to go to tab, then put

linux napic nolapic acpi=off nopinit

(Which I had got from somewhere ages ago to get my 2007 spring Mandriva disks to install)

Perhaps there is another boot option which will enable me to un-tick /sda6?
