Fedora audio CD not recognized

I'm running Fedora Core 1, and am having some difficulties in actually playing an audio CD. For some reason, audio CDs are not recognized.

The wierd thing is that it worked perfectly in KDE KsCD ONCE. Then I made the mistake of ejecting the CD. After inserting a new CD, things went back to normal (ie - no audio CD recognized in drive).

So I am fairly confident that the hardware is all fully functional. It is just the software end of things that is driving me mad.

My relevant current fstab line -

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,user,ro 0 0

I've tried various permuations thereof, such as adding and removing kudzu, and changing to auto.

Puzzled,
Tony

I assume that system sounds and other music such as mp3s play correctly?

Since audio CDs do not contain a data file system fstab is not used in the process of playing music. You can not mount an audio CD. Make sure that kcd configuration points to the CD drive device.

Skorp,

Did you try and use xmms to play the cd-rom? Audio is application driven, try different cd playing programs.

Wait, I think you need to D/L the xmms patch to play .mp3's though.

Oh ya, can you play .mp3's and just not cd-roms? I mean, you do have sound right?

Try booting into Gnome or KDE and trying with the various built-in audio applications.

Slappy
