Fedora 8 nvidia drivers being changed

I just installed F8 on my Inspiron 6400 (Intel Core Duo, 2.0 Ghz, 2Gb Ram, 100 Gb Hdd, Nvidia Geforce 7300, Fedora 8, Using Gnome). I have got most things working but I am having trouble when I try to update my kernel. Since I installed F8 I have slowly been doing all the software updates. I have installed the lastest nvidia drivers from their web site, and managed to get them installed. When I update my Kernel (there were some security updates) it seems to change my x configuration and there by kill my nvidia drivers. It boots into runlevel 3 and I have just kept installing the drivers each time. Is there a way to fix this?

On a side note does any one know if Compiz-fusion will run with my video card? It's 256 Mb Nvidia Geforce 7300.

As to compiz I believe that if you go to the desktop effects control (I'm not sure were it is in gnome, someplace below screen savers last time I checked) and the effects work that should mean 'yes'.

That's the default behavior with nvidia drivers: if you update the kernel, you will have to re-install the nvidia drivers. They are kernel-specific. I have to deal with the same issue in Suse 9.3.

You can go here for the drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Just download the drivers onto your computer and in that folder there should be a file that tells you how to install. The newest drivers for my card were pretty good and actually installed automatically once I ran the binary.
