Fedora 8 installation stops at "running /sbin/loader".

Hi!

I am trying to load Fedora 8 on a machine with a new hard disk, and motherboard, but with a second hand cpu. I am also using a KVM switch to connect to a USB mouse and keyboard and a flatscreen.

I am using a LiveDVD and this DVD has worked previously. I chose the first option in the grub splash "Install or upgrade an existing system".

It seems to halt at "running /sbin/loader" and doesn't proceed to the rest of the installation.

What should I do?

Thanks!

I would suggest that you run installation from the Fedora install disk (Fedora 8 still had multiple CD's or a single DVD, newer versions only have the DVD version). The Live CD is for testing and evaluating (even though it can be installed as well), while the install disks are meant for installation. The specific install disks have room for much more hardware specific alternatives.

Hi!

maresmasb:
Sorry, I'm a bit confused. I don't mean the LiveDVD, I mean the install DVD. I have the install DVD, and I have installed a system a couple of weeks ago with this same DVD and all went well.

bhaslinux:
Please keep in mind that I'm really clueless. Command line parameters? How do I actually get to the command line? Can I change the devices in the BIOS settings or what?

Thanks

;-)

Hi,

When you boot from the install DVD, at one point it shows the Fedora logo and gives a menu option.
During that time you can also see a line in the bottom of the screen which changes as you start typing.
That is the command line for the boot loader.
In that bootloader, try the above commands.
