Fedora 7 and Sun Java
 

Hello Linux community!

This is my first attempt to install and interact with a Linux system at home. I was reading in another post that Fedora 7 was not compatible with Suns Java. Is this true? I always thought Java was platform independent. I guess I would first have to see if there is a JDK for fedora. Anyone have any thoughts or input on this? I was wanting to set up a few servers on my new linux box and one of them was going to be a Java applications server.

Sure it's compatible with Java. The only thing is that Fedora is one of the few distributions that will not offer the software from its repositories. In other words, you'll have to visit Sun, download jdk/jre and install and configure it yourself. You can download either the bin or the rpm file, both will install but the process is a little different.

It would be almost impossible to make Linux incompatible with the Sun JRE.
