Fedora 5 screen interlacing problem after screensaver

I'm having an intermitant problem. I usually keep this computer logged in and turned on (it's an internal web server), but sometimes ... not all the time, and no real time requirement ... when I move the mouse to de-activate the screen saver, the screen appears to be interlaced in a strange way.

Literally about 10 pixels of height will be shifted about 30 pixels to the left, and the next ten to the right, and so on down the entire screen. Makes it impossible to read anything or do anything functional.

To fix it, I just have to log out. As soon as I log out, it's fine again (though, finding the logout button can be tricky since I haven't set up a hotkey for it).

I figure it's some kind of problem with X, but I'm not sure at all how to either diagnose it or fix it.

This is definitely an annoyance, but nothing much more than that. Anyone seen this problem before? I couldn't find anything by searching but probably didn't know what to search under.

Thanks.
