Fedora 5 Hardware removal/adding

Hello there. Firstly thanks to the forum mods & all the contributors.

I spent a fruitful weekend installing Fedora Core 5 on my kids PC, dual booting with Windows XP & have learned an awful lot - managed to use bash to add users & passwords, map an FAT partition that wasnt detected, configured yum, enabled mp3 support, downloaded & installed xine &mplayer & even found a mini bug which I fixed. phew.

What I need to know is - my kids system has one cd rom & one CDRw drive. I want at least remove the cdrw drive & install a dvd writer. What steps should I take to enable smooth transition?? Ie do I remove them anywhere first & then add the new ones on reboot. Also - will I have to change any of the configuration when it comes to burning discs etc?

Many thanks in advance!

Kevin

kudzu is fedora's current hardware detection tool - soon to be totally deprecated in favour of avahi i believe. if you whip it out and put the new one in then you really shouldn't have any problems at all. in fact most of this sort of configuration doesn't really even exist in any persistant state, so much of the configuration is just picked up at boot in an instant. i do not believe there is anything more persistant than possible entries in /etc/fstab which will be easily replaced.
