Fedora 4 Not Booting From CD
hi all i have downloaded fedora core 4, 2 days back and i burn all the 4 cds so im unable to boot the system from cd 1 i have downloaded iso images for X-86 intel based pcs
FC4-i386-disc1.iso FC4-i386-disc2.iso FC4-i386-disc3.iso FC4-i386-disc4.iso but its not working please help....or tell me what do i do with it cuz i think there is no option to boot my system from floppy drive... thankx |
How did you burn the images? Did you verify the MD5 sums of them? Did you set your CD/DVD drive to be the first boot device (this is set in your BIOS)?

First of all, make sure you have told the BIOS to boot from the CD as it's first boot device. Secondly, how did you create the CD - simply copy the .iso file to disc, or actually choose "Burn Image" from your CD writing tool? Pop the CD into a computer and browse the disk - it should show all the files + folders. If it's just the .iso file, you need to find the option to burn an image. Failing that, try burning the CD at a slower speed and trying to boot again, and also let us know what hardware you have in your computer.

yes i have tried all these things that you have mentioned and tried the both ways actually i have uncompress the image file and then burn at 8X speed still not working and my my system specifications are intel 845GVF with 40GB hard drive 2.4 ghz processor intel orignal 128MB ram i think its enough....so now tell me what should i do with it download it again , and like it`ll be more then a headache for me again :P lolzz thankx |

Well i had same problem couldn't get fedora to boot up no matter what i did, so now i went and got mandriva, and a program that turns them into image files, didn't use the normal ones like nero, ect etc, but went and did google search for iso image burner and found the one i wanted, burned mandriva and boom booted right up, you might wanna try this.

hmmmn well i`ll try madriva too but rite now really want to work on fedora well i dont know whats wrong with it i`ve tried 3 , 4 times still its not working im using nero burning rom ver 6.3.1.6 now you guys suggest me what to do with it and kidly send me the link from where i can download mandriva

I have Nero 6.x at home. I don't know what method you've used to burn the .iso file to to disk so far, but here's an appropriate method. (I'm using the Nero User's Guide to help since I only have Nero Express on this machine.)
1. Start Nero, and exit from any Wizard that wants to run. 2. From the menu, select Recorder > Burn Image. 3. Select the image to be burned (FC4-i386-disc1.iso for instance); if you don't see the image, you may need to select "All Files" or similar in the file selection window. 4. Look through your settings, but aside from speed you probably won't need to make any changes. Make sure that any "Multisession" option is not selected. You should probably select "Verify written data" if it's available. 5. After successfully burning, put the CD back in and look at it in Explorer. You should see a bunch of files and folders. If you only see an .iso file, the CD doesn't show any contents or something similar, it was done wrong. If the menu entries are different than I've described, it's because Nero sometimes changes them between versions. Look in your documentation for instructions on something like "Burning an image file". You should not be following instructions for "Making bootable CDs". Here are instructions available from Debian's website about creating Debian CDs. It may be slightly outdated (Nero 5 or early versions of 6), but you'll recognize some of it in your options (even if the selections are greyed out when following the instructions above: Quote:
