Fedora 2 SMP freeze

When I attempt to boot up with the SMP kernel right after it shows the "Uncompressing Kernel, OK starting kernel" message the screen goes blank and it just stops. I am able to boot the single proc kernel fine.

Hardware:

Dell Precision 610
450MHz
512 MB RAM

I would be happy to provide any other info requested.

Try to pass NOAPIC to the kernel as a parameter

Cheers,

I actually got this problem hammered out by updatinging to the 2.6.6-1.435 kernel.

Thank you for your help.

Try to boot using the non-SMP kernel. SMP is mainly for processors that has hyperthreading, which detects 2 CPU's. I'm pretty sure that when you udpated the kernel, there are two options, the SMP kernel and the non-SMP.

Hope this helps.
