Fedora 18 "The exec() call failed" running pptpconfig

First off, i wouldn't call myself a linux newbie, but maybe this is a good point to start anyways. I have found my favorite linux is Fedora and have adapted quite well to yum. I am working on setting up a client VPN to work (of which is a RRAS Windows VPN--gross I know, I didn't build it) and am having an problem with the pptpconfig I obtained from sourceforge. After getting what I needed from sourceforge, the error I get when running pptpconfig in root is "The exec() call failed". I am a little baffled on this and have searched a decent amount to get pretty much no where. Where can I start to gather the information I need to find what is causing this to solve this situation? Has anyone else gotten this before and figured this one out?

Any help would be much appreciated. I just hate dual booting my laptop between Fedora and windows strictly to VPN in.

Thank you all

you do relies that pptpconfig was last updated in 2006
7 years ago
and the page
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net
has instructions for the now very dead Fedora 1 to fedora 6

fedora 18 is way TOO new ( as in pptpconfig is way to old )

it was built for the very OLD 2.4 and just old 2.6 kernels
not the 3.4 version in fedora 18

fedora 18 and windows 7 and 8
should not need this for a VPN

put it this way
fedora is a very fast R and D distro

it would be like trying to use and run tools for windows 95 on windows 8
-- it's not going to work .

John,

Very good point. My issue is I do see the option to do PPTP in Network Manager, but it fails instantly. I'll admit i'm not that well versed in the VPN area unfortunately, nor in the troubleshooting area in linux to find the correct logs to see what settings are causing instant fails. Could you assist in that please?

Thank you

I don't know if you got your problem worked out, but I'm in a similar state. I used to use PPTPConfig because it worked - all the way up to Fedora 16. I recently upgraded to F18 and found that PPTPConfig threw the same error. OK. So, I'll embrace the new technology and go with NetworkManager's VPN setup.

The basic VPN works fine, but it is not optimal at all. The default route is to send ALL communications over the VPN route. If I check the box in the "Routes" section under "IPV4", I get a route table that doesn't work at all - my traffic effectively goes nowhere. I've tried a number of different configurations, but I just can't seem to get it to work out so that VPN traffic uses the VPN and other traffic uses my primary WAN.
