Having two graphic chipsets, I would install bumblebee and bbswitch so that your nvidia card is turned off properly when not in use, and so you can use your nvidia card as well. Have a look here - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Bumblebee

Have you also looked to see what all processes are running? You could have, on the rare chance, a few processes eating up your CPU cycles. Run "top" to see if this is happening.

Lastly, do you have ACPI enabled or disabled? This could also be an issue (power).
Can you run the following commands for us so we can get some information?
Code:

uname -a
lspci -k

Hi corp769!I'm really thankful for your reply, cause I searched nearly everywhere and asked, but couldnt find a single reply!
as I'm new to Linux I dont know exactly what Bumblebee and bbswitch is...:(
uname -a result is:
Linux Infinity 3.8.3-103.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Mar 18 15:46:01 UTC 2013 x86_64

lspci |grep -i VGA result is:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Device 0de9 (rev a1)

and
lspci -k result for graphic card is :
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Device 0de9 (rev a1)
Subsystem: Lenovo Device 397f
Kernel driver in use: nouveau
(I mean the part related to graphic card)

Kernel driver in use: nouveau
01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation GF108 High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)
Subsystem: Lenovo Device 397f
Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel

I would mostly appreciate your help.

Could you just post lspci -k for me? Would be easier. And just being curious, but what are the temperatures? If you are not sure, just install lm-sensors using yum as root.
Code:

sudo yum install lm-sensors
Have you ran top and see if anything was utilizing your CPU a lot?

I have been finding that the "Nouveau" driver has fan issues

for example on my opensuse 12.2 install ( nvidia gts 240 )
the nouveay is NOT turning on the fan until it hits 99 C ,then the desktop shuts down
this also happens on an old box with a gforce 2 card
the nouveau works BUT overheats the card
the 96 driver fixed the issue

the nvidia.run it working WAY better
-- 64 bit
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-d...26-driver.html

please fallow the fedora guide on replacing the nouveau driver !!!!

http://www.forums.fedoraforum.org/sh...d.php?t=280750

it is NOT a one click thing. You have to uninstall and / or blacklist the nouveau
rebuild the boot image
then install the .run
or better yet the Akmod-nvidia

corp769 03-27-2013 02:39 PM

Ehh, haven't used nouveau drivers in a dog's age... And I second the akmod-nvidia. I was just worrried that being a hybrid setup, the card is always on, and could play a role in the heat issue. After I installed bbswitch on my laptop (Alienware M14x), my temperatures decreased quite a few degrees.

Thank you John VV for your reply too!

I installed sensors and the result is this:

acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +57.0°C (crit = +99.0°C)

nouveau-pci-0100
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +61.0°C (high = +95.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +58.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 0: +58.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +56.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

as you mentioned I checked the CPU usage with top,but it was very low,I mean there want any process using CPU too much.

and the lspci -k result is this:

1 more thing about what you mentioned ,John VV,once I did removed the nouveau driver but after the reboot the X did not boot & I had to reinstall Fedora! I dont know... maybe I have done something wrong at that time!

The air blown by the fan is that hot that the mouse beside it,is hot too!

Thanks for your help!

Did you install the nvidia driver after you uninstalled the nouveau driver?

leni 03-27-2013 02:52 PM

that may sound ridiculous, but as im newbie, I just searched and entered some commands that removed the driver and X didnt boot, all that came to my mind was to reinstall the OS .you think that I have to remove the driver again??

leni 03-27-2013 03:07 PM

in the link below ( which John VV has mentioned) plz have a look at post #8 . The problem with removing the driver is exactly the same as mine .:((

http://www.forums.fedoraforum.org/sh...d.php?t=280750

what is your suggestion?

Thanks a lot .

that was not rebuilding the boot image
from the fedora guide page
this is THREE commands
Code:

su -
--- then type in your root password ----

mv /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r)-nouveau.img

dracut /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)

i normally do most of this in a terminal ONLY boot
but this can also be done while gnome is running
-- .run
1) uninstall AND blacklist nouveau
2) rebuild the boot image
3) reboot into text only
-- at this point it will ONLY boot into text ( init 3)--
install the .run
4) reboot , normally
--------------
-- the akmod ---
all can be done while gnome is running
see the fedora guide
http://www.forums.fedoraforum.org/sh...d.php?t=280750
1. Update the kernel and reboot

2. Install the nvidia driver.

3. Make sure nouveau is removed from initramfs
--- This is rebuilding the boot image after the akmod is installed ( it is the last step )

4. Reboot

------------ added latter ----------

this is the two chip issue that "corp769" mentioned
also see

i my self do not use an "optimus " CPU/GPU mash-up

Also you might want to install the current Fedora 18
the optimus support is supposed to be better

fedora 17 will be hitting it's End of life in a few months ( 2 to 3 months)

leni 03-27-2013 03:43 PM

thanks for all the time you gave me, Corp769 and John VV.
I did the same in terminal :
mv /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r)-nouveau.img

dracut /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)

but still I dont know how to reinstall the nvidia driver because after the reboot Fedora 17 hanged at "[OK] Started Display Manager....
you mean this issue wont take place if I upgrade to fedora18?

John VV 03-27-2013 09:57 PM

it is looking like you did a few things out of order

during the 3 sec countdown, before booting , you can edit the boot line
grub2 is VERY different than grub-legacy
but
hit the < e > key ( e for "edit" )
use the down arrows to go to the kernel line in the grub2 edit mode window
use the right arrow key to go the the end of the kernel line

and a blank space and then a 3

hit F10 to boot ( read the on screen instructions )

that takes you into the terminal only boot and login

and have a read through the fedora forum
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=289621

the search results for "optimus"

Thanks to all friends' guides I installed bumblebee & the temperature fell to around 49.0°C from 60.0°C !not a big success but still not bad! Please let me know if there is a solution to reach the normal temperature & have the Optimus run as it should .
The link below is the tutorial on installing Bumblebee on fedora 17 for those who are newbie, like me.;)

Hope it helps a bit.
