Fedora 11 SHA1SUM value from bit torrent not even close
 

I downloaded Fedora 11 CDs using bit torrent and made copies while still seeding. When I inserted the first CD and it failed I ran sha1sum.exe (after I stopped seeding) and the hash wasn't even the same length as the checksum.

Was it copying while seeding?

I had a few errors while downloading, but I thought in the 13 hours that I was downloading from the torrent those would have been corrected.

Advise about bit torrent usage might help.

the DVD is easier to use than the CD farm; you might wanna send off for a pre-burned DVD if you don't have the hardware to write them.

regards bittorrent, i was pretty sure we used MD5 hashes for the Fedora install media, not SHA1. there's a program called md5sum that checks them for ya.

The online tutorials say sha1 but the first line in the checksum file says sha256. For what its worth. The tt als points to SHA1SUM and XCSI as methods of check in distributions. I ran both and they both gave the same result.
XCSI has an MD5 check I will try.

I forgot to mention that I am a Linux newbie and doing this on a windows box. So I followed this link.

I did find that there is a version of sha256sum.exe that is compile-able using minGW and MSYS, though I haven't gotten that far yet.

Google HashCalc and use that in Windows to find the sha256sums. :)
