Right click on the speaker Icon and choose open volume control. Make sure sure that pcm, headphones and master are not muted. Then right click again on the speaker icon and choose preferences and make sure the right alsa mixer is choosen. I have Installed fc10 on two machines and I have had two do one or both steps described above to get it working. You will need to restart after making the changes for new settings to take place.

Just a suggestion: Fedora 10 uses pulseaudio - it might be something to do with it

If you see one that says (alsa mixer) try that , or if you know the name of your sound card look for it then choose it, for me I just used the on board sound device and since both boxes were intel I went with Intel.....(alsa mixer). Remember you have to restart for changes to take effect if you hear the startup sound you know its working.
