fedora 10 is not loading my second hard drive

my second hard drive is not seen in computer window
but when I type /sbin/fdisk -l
I get
Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x0001247c

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 25 200781 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 26 60801 488183220 8e Linux LVM

Disk /dev/sdb: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00077d0c

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

so it sees I have 2 hard drives but I dont know how to make it so I can use it

any help would be great

You need to partition the second hard-drive. If you do "/sbin/fdisk /dev/sdb" and the type p to print the table; it will show no partitions.

Does the second drive have an partitions or filesystem on it? Looks to me like it's blank disk.

ok I did that got this

Usage: fdisk [-b SSZ] [-u] DISK Change partition table
fdisk -l [-b SSZ] [-u] DISK List partition table(s)
fdisk -s PARTITION Give partition size(s) in blocks
fdisk -v Give fdisk version
Here DISK is something like /dev/hdb or /dev/sda
and PARTITION is something like /dev/hda7
-u: give Start and End in sector (instead of cylinder) units
-b 2048: (for certain MO disks) use 2048-byte sectors

now what? ya I am a complete newb

This guide should help http://linux.about.com/gi/dynamic/of....net/partition

Or if you are like me, download a package called gparted and do it graphically.

so ya i dl the package now how do I use a package? lol

harry edwards 12-26-2008 06:35 PM

gParted comes with Fedora; no need to download seperately. I agree with BillyMayDay install gparted: You can do this by typing:

yum install gparted -y

Then from the Menu select Applications->System Tools->gParted Partition editor. With gParted you'll be able to create a new partition on the disk in a graphical window (more user friendly).

its not there

on a side note whats a superuser when i tryed to install my graphic drive it tould me I need to be one

harry edwards 12-26-2008 06:44 PM

A super user is one that Administers the system. All configuration needs to be done as the super user: called root. Before you can install or partition your drive you need to logon as root; you can do this by typing:

su - root

You'll need the password you set on install.

Once logged in as root try:

yun install gparted -y

billymayday 12-26-2008 06:46 PM

The superuser is root - the first account you set up during the installation process.

Try opening a terminal session, then type "su -" Enter root's password, then type "gparted"

are you trying to install the blob nvidia driver from nvidia
IF SO save your self a LOT of trouble and install the kmod-nvidia or akmod-nvidia
the same goes for the ATI driver kmod-fglx

the blob driver overwrites some system files that may need to be replaced

also super user is this
Code:

su -
( then your root password when asked)
