fdisk -l "Unable to seek on /dev/sdb"

I have a data disk - /dev/sdb, and my box could not read this disk.

Code:

fdisk -l
Unable to seek on /dev/sdb

My box is scientific linux x86 6.1.

Any helpful comment would be much appreciated.

This looks bad. Does the BIOS report all your disks during the power-on self test?

After running that fdisk command you posted above, does dmesg report anything related to that drive at the bottom of its output?

I suggest you downloading, burning, and booting the seatools live cd. Use it to test your drives. Regarding of being a seagate product it can check any SMART capable drive.

Thank you for your comment.

I'll try seatools.
