Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I have fedora core 1, but would like to upgrade to fc3.....well, because I have the GRUB boot loader, it no longer boots from disk. How can I load the install disk from boot/grub/ or from FC1? Will my FC1 programs work when i upgrade to FC3?
Originally posted by reddazz Your apps should be upgraded to the latest versions, but I am not sure if this is done automatically, for all packages, so you may have to make sure they are selected for install just in case.
how can I start the install disk? It wont auto boot when i start the computer....it goes to grub and wont auto-run the install disk.
Not all BIOS will check the CD device for bootable media before starting up, go into BIOS as the computer starts (F12 or DEL or something, hit it like a crazy man as it starts up :P) look for a section to change the boot up device order and put your CD drive at the top.
