FC2 installer problem

hi

i currently have redhat 9 installed but am having trouble getting my AC'97 integrated soundcard to work and my integrated LAN to work.

i have decided to try Fedora Core 2.
burnt all 4 CDs fine, not bothered with Rescue yet.
i boot from CD, press Enter to install i only get this message coming up:
Loading vmlinuz...............
Loading initrd.img..................

then my computer restarts. what happened?

before you say its a faulty CD, i used the CD in another computer and it works fine, and i did the media check on it and its a Pass.

should i stick with Redhat 9 and sort out my audio and LAN or work on the fedore core 2?

any help will be appreciated

to your last question: dont walk away to fast from a distro, solving those problems can t be that hard
and when you have the solution you feel more confident. if you post your RH problems here ,
add the output of :

lspci ( the hardware you ve got )
and
lsmod ( the modules that are loaded )

there are many people around here being glad to get you going.

and the FC2 problem ??? just don t know.

( it took me 3 months to get all in Slackware working, but that was without forums like thisone , so you should do it
much faster.:)

thanks for your encouragement

my specs:
P4 2.8GHz Prescott (HT currently disabled)
Asus P4P800E Deluxe Motherboard
512MB DDR PC3200
Sapphire Radeon 9550 256MB
Western Digital 30GB ATA66 (RedHat 9 Here)
Maxtor 80GB S-ATA (Win2000 here)
Sony CRX230E CD-R/W

sound and LAN are integrated into the mobo and am having trouble getting these to work on redhat

if this is what u mean by modules, i have lots of times copied stuff from my mobo driver CD and used the "make" command and "make install" etc but dont seem to be getting anywhere

i would also like to point out that i must use the Generic video mode for graphics(the max Video Ram i can select is 128MB, i got 256MB), but that should be able to be sorted once i download the proper linux drivers once i managed to get the LAN working.

thanks again

well, i have an old asus mobo (A7v600x) and there were no drivers for Linux on the cd. but if all is well, they come with
your distro . ( is asus providing Linux drivers ?? )

first thing todo for you seems getting the network to run, so you can work on all items with a browser open
to search info. i think you need to insert the right module ( fast try : modprobe tulip ) . it s a wild guess but
maybe that works.

otherwise... try to post the output of : ' lsmod' and 'lspci'

probebly you may have to compile your own kernel, there are good guides to that and it s not difficult, only be very accurate.

The problem with FC2 is your motherboard. The Asus P4P800E Deluxe Motherboard has a problem with Fedora Core 2. Redhat 9 works fine though. The bug is documented on a bug tracker, but I can't seem to find it right now, I learned it after trying to install FC2 on my own P4P800E Deluxe mb.

yeah i figured, it worked on the old Dell though.
i managed to install Red Hat 9, kernell 2.4.22 or something fine.
only problem is my LAN and Sound are integrated and havin real difficulty gettin them to work :'(
i think LAN is something like Marvel Yukon
and sound is AC'97
im considering getting a wireless anyway soon, can you point out what i need to look out for to make sure it will be compatible?
thanks
